Trellys Fishing

Trellys Fishing

Corio Bay

Weather has been far from ideal the past week for fishing with pretty much next to zero official reports coming through but there are still some options well worth fishing for especially in the wind and wet. Kevin Barry, The Geelong waterfront is a great option for weather like this as the structure is hit with the turbulent water its stirs all the food up and often putting the resident fish quite active. Typically pinky snapper will come onto the chew but you can also expect critters like flathead, salmon and trevally are all likely to fire up also.

Bellarine Peninsula

Water is very likely to have some colour in it and with some big tides coming up we can also expect the king George whiting to fire up this next week or so. Although we give had any official reports come through its well worth putting some time in and having a crack on these guys. The whole Bellarine Peninsula will be well worth fishing from Clifton Springs right through to Queenscliff.

Offshore Barwon Heads

Offshore Barwon Heads again no official reports but with some calm weather on the horizon for next week we could expect to see some good Gummy shark fishing come from the next week or so. Fishing the 30 or 40 metre line with fresh salmon or calamari will put you in for the best chance of a fish with plenty of opportunity for some bi catch like School shark or snapper.

Barwon Estuary

Barwon Heads estuary has had some reports of Silver Trevally starting to really fire up with anglers getting amongst some solid trevs pushing over 55cm! Small curl tail style plastics are working an absolute treat such as the Gulp 2.5 inch grub. Either using a pre scented lure or applying scent to one that isn’t can make a massive difference at the moment as the water can be dirty at times.

Barwon river

The Barwon river with all this rain should see some Carp come onto the chew around the stormwater drains around town, if you were some are its well worth having a crack near it as the carp will come right up to it where the fresh water is pushing food. Corn and bread on a lightly weighted running sinker rig is the go to setup when chasing carp.

Goulburn River

The cray fish reports are still coming in now that the river has settled with some big Crays caught. Downstream of Nagambie has been a great spot for Crays lately as well as Murchison and also Arcadia. In the heart of Shepparton there has still been good numbers caught but there has been more small Crays caught compared to upstream. Fishing wise it’s been pretty tough this week with only a hand full of natives caught with scrub worms being the best baits.Carp and Crays love scrub worms so expect to reel in both of those species while chasing cod and Yellowbelly.

Broken River

The fishing has been a bit better in the broken river compared the Goulburn with more reports of both cod and Yellowbelly coming in. Downstream of Benalla there has been a few cod caught on Spinnerbaits in the afternoons. In Shepparton a couple of Yellowbelly have been caught along broken river drive with tn60 jackals working best. The carp are going crazy near the weirs so if your keen for some fun come grab some worms and hold on as there has been some giants caught lately.

Shepparton Lake

Trout are still on the bite at the lake with a heap of kids catching fish. The afternoons have been the best time to fish the lake this week with high numbers of fish being caught on both bait and lures.

Unweighted scrub worms drifted in weedless pockets has been the best method for bait fisherman alongside powerbaits. Those using lures have been catching trout on small soft plastics just slow rolling back to the bank near both boat ramps.Trolling small divers out in the rowing lanes has also been a great method for chasing trout with a couple of Redfin also caught this way recently.

Fish Out Pond

The Arcadia fish out pond is still producing fish with 400 trout stocked recently.

Small spinners and curl tail strike tiger soft plastics have been great lures for chasing these trout in the shallows. Floating powerbait and worms around the trees has also been great spots to chase trout on bait. There is still plenty of cod and Yellowbelly in the pond so if your keen to chase them we would be using square bills or small Spinnerbaits around the edges.

Lake Eppalock

Mainly smaller catches reported at Eppalock this week with the continued trend of angler’s mainly finding fish in the deeper water. Worms were effective on the weekend getting some redfin and yellowbelly. Small body deep diving hard bodies also doing well like the RMG 8+ divers as the fish have been sitting super deep. Not any word of cod catches this week but stick to large lay downs and rock banks using hardbodies and spinnerbaits.

Cairn Curren

A couple cod caught at the spillway this week on spinnerbaits (bassman codman 1oz in white) and word of a nice cod caught in the lake itself on a deep diving hardbody. Redfin catches picked up a little this week with a few local anglers managing some good numbers trolling deep diving hard bodies. A few were also caught on profishent blades (ora vibe 45) with one angler managing a 48cm redfin. Didn’t get many reports of yellow belly this week but the few we did hear about were caught close to structure.

Bridgewater

Two nice surface cod caught this week on pompadour’s along with a solid cod caught on a jackal Gantarel. All three were caught late afternoon, A handful of nice yellow belly reported this week caught trolling profishent chainsaw’s. Land based anglers managed to pick up a couple cod on chicken this week closer to town. A few carp were caught on worms putting up some big fights. Patience is key this time of year with th cooler weather.

Serpentine

A bit slower this week with lower numbers reported to the shop but there were still some nice catches with one angler managing a 74cm cod on spinnerbait and a healthy 50cm yella on a bassman yellaman casting tight to some laydowns.  Don’t be afraid to try a larger surface lure this time of year when trying to lure out a big cod!

Campaspe River

Not much word is the shop this week for Campaspe, water clarity as far as we know is still pretty good so using natural colours or very loud colours like pink or white would be our choice, hardbody’s this time of year usually do pretty well as they can get down quite deep provided your using a deep diver. Spinnerbaits are still a great option as they can get a fish angry and cause a reaction bite. Bassman have some great options along with Australian crafted lures if chasing some deep divers!

Bendigo Family Lakes

Some good numbers of trout and redfin being caught at  Crusoe on bait and spinners at the minute, trying using spinners with pink or red on them. Powerbaits great for trout and we have a good range of colour options in store. Worms are also a great option as just about any hungry fish will eat them. Weeroona continues to be a little more quiet with the odd redfin being caught but no great size to them. Tom thumb has seen a few silver perch catches the past week and the odd large carp! As far as we know, no real yellowbelly catches to report.
