Trellys Fishing Report

Trellys Fishing Report

Corio Bay

Inside the bay there has been some good land based options on offer with St Helens rocks starting to fish well with reports of pinky snapper coming on the chew. Anglers are finding fish to around 35cm in decent numbers. Anglers have also been picking up flathead, salmon and whiting fishing this area.

Bellarine Peninsula

Some hot fishing on offer at the moment with King George Whiting dominating the reports with anglers landing big bags of fish from all over the region. Avalon, Clifton Springs, Indented Heads, St Leonards and Queenscliff all heating up. The further you go towards the heads the bigger and the better the fishing is. Anglers having been finding bag limits on offer with fish to over 45cm on the go.

Offshore

Offshore has seen Tuna and Mako sharks still holding in decent numbers but more so down the west. Apollo Bay to Portland has been holding the better numbers. Matt Vanjek made the most of the good weather landing himself a nice mako as well as a bunch of tasty reef fish.

Murray River

It was a bumper Easter weekend especially those fishing with Balista Lures. It seemed every second photo we saw was that with a cod or Yellowbelly with a Balista lure in its mouth. There were 2 stand out lures which were the Balista Dyno 90s during the day both casting or trolled. Those fishing low light periods also found the Balista Hunchback 90 pick of the bunch with this lure both worked on a fast and slow retrieve. There were plenty of cod caught on bait below the wall at Yarrawonga mostly around the 40/60cm range with chicken being the best bait. Down street around Cobram we have had plenty of reports of Yellowbelly being caught on scrub worms in the late afternoons around sand banks.

Goulburn River

It was a busy Easter weekend on the Goulburn River and we received many different reports from all over the place. The annual Toolamba Fishing Clubs classic again was a great event with some solid fish being caught with trolling being a popular way to target cod. Medium sized codgers and 15f diving Old Mates were regularly reported by those fishing in Toolamba and also up towards Murchison. Bait fishing between Nagambie and Murchison was also a great way to spend the Easter break with both legal sized cod and Yellowbelly caught with small yabbies and scrub worms the best baits. In Shepparton we have had reports of cod around the 45/65cm range being caught between the boat ramp and junction with casting Spinnerbaits very popular. The single bladed old mates and the Bassman compact Spinnerbaits have been the stand outs. Carp fishing again has been popular amongst families in the Goulburn with one local reporting 15 carp in a 2 hour session. Corn, worms and bread have been the best baits for those chasing carp either fished under a float super shallow or hard on the bottom in other depths. The next couple of weeks maybe a little tricky in the Goulburn with scheduled flows hitting the river which will see heights rise and the water dirty up but it’s not uncommon for us so going heavier with your sinkers or larger with your lures the best option.

Broken River

We are continuing to receive reports from the Broken River with still plenty of cod being caught. Down steam of Benalla there has been legal cod caught on Pirate Spinnerbaits with the cod both hitting the lure on the drop or on a slow retrieve. Down around the weirs there has been some nice sized fish caught on smaller hardbodies on a slow rolling retrieve or those in kayaks have been trolling them. There is still plenty of smaller cod being caught off the top, the Jackal Pompadour continues to be the stand out surface lure either with the shake and pause or a slow rolling technique. In Shepparton we have had some reports of Yellowbelly being caught on worms near the foot bridge near the Broken River Dr bridge. There hasn’t been a heap of cod caught on bait this week but we still get the odd report from those using cheese.
