FISHING REPORT
Clifton Springs
Clifton Springs seems to be cementing itself as the snapper capital of the Bellarine Peninsular this season with anglers boating snapper to 8kg. The Point Richards channel is a great place to start with anglers sounding around till schools of fish are located then anchoring up and pitching out a bait finding good results. Pilchard or silver whiting proved most effective as bait this past week and those willing to brave to more wild weathered days saw a larger average size fish. Just remember to stay well clear of big ships in the bay and do not anchor in the channel. The spoil grounds were good fun for those casting soft plastics with pinkie snapper, flathead and pike to 80cm in length devouring gulp soft plastics or slow trolled Daiwa double 75s.
Portarlington
Over at Portarlington land based anglers still banked pinkie snapper to 2kg from the rocks with the odd larger fish on the chew. Silver Trevally and whiting also featured in angler’s bags from the Portarlington Harbor.
St Leonards
St Leonards saw the well know section of water Bourke St fire up big time for whiting with bag limit captures possible on sunset. At times anglers who ventured a little further down towards Swan Bay also reported good captures of King George Whiting.
Queenscliff
If it was squid you were after then Queenscliff was the place with the Bight giving up monsters to 2kg although they did prove patchy at times. The Queenscliff Harbor was excellent for pinkie snapper along with pike and Australian Salmon to over 1kg. Bait or lure worked with the key fishing the slow running tides or the lead up to high tide.
Surf Coast
The surf coast estuaries are fishing well for bream at present with soft plastics like the Z-Man Grub doing the job. Bait anglers found a lightly weighted yabby to work well. Some impressive bream to 45cm are lurking around.
Surf Coast
The Surf beaches were worth a walk and cast with Australian Salmon to 2.5kg being beached. Lures casting from the sand worked well on the lead up to high tide the peak bite time.
Surf Beaches
Surf anglers had a ball landing numerous Australian Salmon from the beaches along the Surf Coast. Again spinning with 25-40 gram lures was most effective. Fishing fresh squid baits at night was a great way for anglers to beach a gummy shark or two.
Ron Nelson Clinic
Sunday 29/10/17 the Ron Nelson fishing clinic was held which a great success seeing about 80 kids land some feisty rainbow trout along with redfin and even an eel. Elijah Malone landed a well-conditioned rainbow trout of 930 grams that won him the boy’s competition.
Lake Toolirook
Lake Tooliorook is in fine form at present. Chris from Trelly's in Geelong took a run down the Hamilton Highway twice over the past week and spent a few hours trolling the lake with both brown and rainbow trout to almost 2kg devouring Tassie devils and shallow running hard body. John from Osaka tackle also got stuck into a feisty brown trout. Peri found it hard to resist lake Tooliorook also boating well conditioned trout along with his mate Josh.
Lake Purrumbete
Still down the West and Lake Purrumbete gave up trophy brown trout once again to over 10lb. Anglers also found smaller model brown, rainbow and brook trout. This lake is the place if you’re after variety and a trophy fish.
Lake Bullen Merri
Next door Lake Bullen Merri was consistent for chinook salmon to 2kg both trolling and bait fishing worked.
Nagambie / Murchison
Had a report of a couple of fish caught in the Goulburn River up around the Wineries at Nagambie last Weekend, Redfin and Yellowbelly, but not in huge numbers, hopefully when the water warms up a little, the fishing will fire up. Kirwans Bridge area has been quiet with the exception of the 2 Outlet Channels from the Weir, still plenty of Redfin on Soft Plastics and Yellowbelly on Jackal T/N 60’s. Just below the Weir in the Goulburn River and Towards Murchison is fishing really well for Yellowbelly, mainly on Worms and the Cable Hole area around Wahring Station/Morningside road has been the best, Bassman Spinnerbaits Codman and 4 X 4 Series in Purple or Bright Orange has been working ok also.
Toolamba / Shepparton
Cemetery Road area to Arcadia in the Goulburn River has been fishing really well, Yellowbelly on Worms the best method, water looks really good and the lure fisho’s should be in this area giving it a crack over the next few weeks and we should see some really good catches from this area, Pirate Spinnerbait Vibrating Blade and Pink/White or Black/Orange would be my choice for the Yellowbelly at the moment. We did hear a report of a fell who caught 7 Yellowbelly all on Worms in the Goulburn River, Balaklava Road area in the heart of Shepparton during the week. The Victoria Lake in Shepparton is still fishing consistent, late afternoon and on the Western side, Red Tailed White plastics, Rooster Tail Spinners and Fly has been the best method for the Redfin, Yellowbelly and Trout found in the lake. A few Yellowbelly in the Kialla Lakes on Jackal T/N 60’s Peacock colour and 4 D Chatterbaits.
Rushworth / Kyabram
I hate to keep repeating myself BUT Waranga Basin is still fishing consistent, plenty of small Redfin on small Deep Diving Hardbodies and White Soft Plastics. Schools are anywhere from out front of the Yacht Club to the Harrimans Point area. All 4 of the Inlet/Outlet Channels are all fishing really well, Yellowbelly and Redfin on mainly Soft Plastics and Worms in the 2 Inlet Channels, try the main Drop Bar off Channel Inlet Road to the Mouth of the Basin. The 2 Outlet Channels are fishing well for Redfin, Fisho’s are seeing big Schools of Redfin on the Surface late afternoon, so Fly or Small Surface Lures working well, they also have noticed the Schools scattering occasionally, so something big is feeding on them, Medium Hardbody or Spinnerbait would be worth a try, Middle Road and Tatura/Rushworth Road area’s are fishing well, small Yabbies, Shrimp and Worms working well also.

Next Week
Looking for an option next week then don’t go past Clifton Springs for snapper. Whiting at St Leonard’s is a safe bet and a great way to get a feed. It won’t be long now to we start to see a few Kingfish appear either in the RIP or offshore.
